the melting sensation, a thin slice of yellow
accompanied by crunch toward cucumber bliss.
I am mesmerized by my progress (unusual, inconceivable!)
The plumage of my ego fans out towards alone-time,
I am beginning to trust myself,
my tongue is warm and wet, biting into the grain and seed.
Drinking cool water on the side, I fawn over the start of my return
from a smoker’s grit--back to my mellifluous angel voice!
I quit smoking, in this terrible ‘extra’ time...
My youth. I haven’t felt this healthy since my youth.
Just as I betray my societal sensibilities,
adding mayonnaise to toasted bread,
I leap from the realm of acceptable (stay home, be afraid.)
towards the truth—my soul is healing.
And this sandwich
is perfectly
delicious. Even today.
