Daydream

by Reuben Hartikainen

Reality shifting.
Surrealistic waves tugging and pulling you
from the shores of the present to the oceans of your dreams.
Do you sink?
Or do you float?
Believe you control the events, the weather.
Believe you do, for if you don’t, the storm will drown you.
What trauma have you suffered, that makes you so displeased
with the life you lead that you must imagine another?
Tugging and pulling.
The waves slam onto the shore of the present bringing you
back into reality.
Is your brain clear from floating?
Or is it waterlogged, hazy from drowning in your ocean of dreams?
Do the waves pull you back into daydreaming,
or do you sit on the beach of life?
Why are you scared?
Why are you scarred?
Who? What? Why?
Am I asking too many questions?
“Who am I?” You ask.
Reality shifting,
Tugging and pulling
